The Legend of the Goose Girl
Designing a limited edition illustrated hardback book.
The Legend of the Goose Girl is a new folk story, set a long, long time ago. The book is a collaboration between author Rupert Procter, co-author Marianne Obong-Oshotse and illustrator Nathalie Madron.
They had the wonderful story and beautiful illustrations and I worked closely with them to bring it all together into a limited edition hardback book.
I took the story and illustrations and created an initial mock-up of the book, with various font choices. After a few iterations, and some extra water colour work from Nathalie, the book was ready to print.
I liaised closely with Paul at Kingfisher Press to make decisions on paper options and cover finishes.
The final form is a stunning limited edition case bound book with gold foil highlighting on the cover.
I also designed and built a simple website to enable online orders from around the world. This involved setting up an eCommerce shop, integrating a secure payment system and setting up email addresses. The final step was facilitating the set up of social media accounts and creating relevant graphics for those.
“I cannot thank Karen at Arnott Design enough for so enthusiastically getting behind our book project, ‘The Legend of the Goose Girl’, and coming up with the design that has created a beautiful product; one that my team and I are very delighted with.
Karen’s talent, experience and professionalism enabled her very quickly to grasp and respect what we were trying to achieve and to get behind and drive the project forward at a meaningful, affordable and achievable pace. It has proved very easy, beneficial and fun to work with her.
Karen is very creative herself, having put her talent towards building our website, www.legendofthegoosegirl.com, and has been very helpful in showing my team and I how to use it in a very clear and consistent manner. Karen also very kindly helped with linking our website to the other social media platforms we were already on and suggested new ones we could go on. We continue to work with Arnott designs. My team and I have no hesitation at all recommending Karen; you will be engaging a very efficient, competent, first class graphic designer. Her good reputation is well deserved.”
